What If My Financed Car Is Stolen?
Video Transcript
Hello, my name is Jerry Buccerra. I’m with Barbary Insurance Brokerage and today we’re going to talking about a number of property and casualty insurance issues. People ask, what could happen if the car I’m financing is stolen? Well, first of all a stolen car could be total loss or sometimes the cars are recovered and if they’re recovered, they’re often recovered burnt out or with lots of parts missing or damaged or driven off the road, so it could still be a total loss. And that’s a problem for you because if you still owe money on the car, even if it’s fully insured. You may not recover enough money to pay off the loan. That’s because automobiles are insured for the actual cash value. They’re depreciating the automobile for every day it’s on the road and every bit of use you’re putting on it and pretty soon that number is going to get down below or could get down below the amount that you owe on the car. The most important thing that you could do is ask for a special endorsement on your policy that covers the loan or lease gap and would pay the difference between the amount for the stolen car and the amount that you owed on the loan. This is Jerry Buccerra with Barbary Insurance Brokerage. I hope this was helpful for you.
